MAURICE MENTJENS

Maurice Mentjens (1964) was trained as a product designer at the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design and the Design Academy Eindhoven. He started his own studio in 1990 primarily designing interiors and related objects and furnishings. Aim of the compact, talented and dynamic team is to deliver high-end design reflecting its passion. Quality and creativity are prioritised in all aspects of the design and implementation process. What Maurice Mentjens loves best is telling stories, packaged in numerous layers referring back to a place or a use. For him, it’s all about the context. The final design thus becomes an anthology of stories, to be read like an essay. With a philosophical slant, full of meanings, often originating in the worlds of mythology, history, literature or the visual arts. It is through this use of semiotics that his projects transcend the boundaries of interior design.

His agency received the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany and is a three times winner of the Dutch Design Award. Clients include the Bonnefantenmuseum Maastricht, Frans Hals Museum Haarlem, Post Panic Video Producers Amsterdam, DSM Heerlen and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
